For more than two months already, farmers from different parts of Luzon had camped outside the House of Representatives in Quezon City. This action is intended to show their ardent support to House Bill3059 or the Genuine Agrarian Reform Bill (GARB) filed by nationalist congressmen from partylists Bayan Muna, Gabriela, at Anakpawis. GARB addresses the decades-old problem of land reform in the Philippines.
Last May 22, the farmers were violently dispersed by the House of Representatives
special action force (SAF) and police after House Speaker Prospero Nograles ordered their immediate eviction after camping out for 40 days.
As part of the campaign, the Artists’ Arrest together with the farmers will be holding a free concert at the Department of Agrarian Reform on May 29, 2009 entiltled “Dapat Bawiin”, a free concert supporting the Genuine Agrarian Reform Bill.
The event is intended to explore creative ways of demanding the immediate passage of the GARB as well as to serve as a solidarity night for all organizations and individuals who believe in the social ideals of justice and equity embodied by the said bill.
It will feature music, poetry and live art. Performers include Datu’s Tribe, Talahib, Sinangag, Umble Uno, Granada, Beauty of Doubt, Danny Fabella, Nato and Aki, Alay Sining, Dagitab, Jef Pagaduan, Kilometer 64 and Karatula.
